In the mid-70's he formed his own band "Diablo" (together with Eddy Ramirez as lead guitarist and life-long musical inspiration) and began performing latin rock, latin jazz, and his own original material at local street fairs, dances, parties, concerts, etc.(17 to 18 year old kids getting down to the Santana sound). In the early 80's, Walter continued to play keyboards in a variety of bands and different styles of music. He eventually joined "The Brass Knights of Bernal Heights" to perform original latin rock material. Performances included The Stone on Broadway in SF, and in Palo Alto - opening for such acts as Elvin Bishop, Johnny Otis, a Motown revival tour, and others. After a few years - in the mid-80's, Walter reunited the members of his original band to create "Mid-nite Blue". This 8-10 piece band specialized in realistic re-creations of "Santana" classics. Heavy latin rock sounds filled the original material (written by Walter, as well as Eddy Ramirez) that fit in perfectly to round out the repertoire. Concerts, street fairs, parties, and regular performances at various SF clubs including the Chi-Chi Club, Morty's, SF Musicworks, and the Omni. In the early 90's, "Mid-nite Blue" evolved to 4 people and an awesome sound, lead guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums! Regularly performing original material, latin rock, latin jazz.......clubs, SF's famous Carnaval (judged #1 band the year the Carlos himself was the Grand Marshal), Cinco de Mayo, and 24th St. Faire celebrations- over time opening for great artists such as Tito Puente, Malo, Cold Blood, and others. Walter took a hiatus from music in the mid-90's to develop business opportunities. The millennium has lured him back to performing and now he is back on the scene, playing keyboards with "Mambo Street", performing a variety of latin rock, latin jazz, and other favorites. |
